The Digital Communication Network is designing another thematic series of events titled “Serious Games Against Disinformation” to highlight the importance of the game industry focusing on social issues. Through our partners and experts from all over the globe, we will be discussing different approaches towards the games in various geographies, as well as looking at case studies of certain games which promote digital and media literacy.

Digital Communication Network is officially announcing the Influencers Hub Ukraine Conference. The event will bring together community and civic organizers, policymakers, journalists, activists, new media representatives, and influencers in order to discuss and understand the world after the pandemic and to explore new ways in which we can make our voices heard.
This webinar will be a conversation between Aisha Kehoe Down and James Wright on the art of sourcing in investigative journalism, and the difficulties and opportunities that arise from building sources in the digital age. It will focus on a recent investigation by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, “Marlboro’s Man: Philip Morris’s Representative In Burkina Faso is a known cigarette smuggler,” an investigation which examined smuggling and illicit financial flows in Africa, as well as the behavior of large multinational corporations on the continent.

Fake news spreads as fast as the actual virus, multiplying its strength and reach. The webinar’s goal is to discuss the issue of disinformation, in light of new developments, including polarization and lies / conspiracies about COVID-19 and to present efforts to counter falsehoods and promote scientific and data based solutions. In this virtual discussion, the Director of the International Fact-Checking Network Baybars Orsek will provide a global perspective, leading to identifying relevant trends.
Amid the ongoing race to dominate the COVID-19 vaccine uptake, Russia and China have been actively promoting their respective vaccines abroad through state-funded outlets and diplomatic accounts. It has been found that there is an ongoing effort to put forward negative narratives about Western vaccines in an attempt to undermine trust, (Russia) and or positive image of the Chinese vaccines as well as its role as a benevolent leader combatting COVID-19 internationally. We will organise a round table-presentation of the results of Fake News Hunters work and DFR Lab Atlantic Council regarding the topic.
Statistics measuring the overall presence of female digital leaders and tech entrepreneurs can be discouraging. Women are dramatically under-represented in the digital sector. Studies highlight the need for both men and women, working in the industry, to encourage and inspire women to launch and develop careers in the digital space. It is a demanding and dynamic field requiring humility, adaptability, vision, and constant engagement, where women can make a difference.
“Combating Disinformation: Training Refugees to become Fact-checkers” is a project granted by “Together, Moving Forward – Students and Refugees uniting for inclusion in society and education”, which is part of the European Students’ Union (ESU).
