The 6th International Media Summer Academy (THISAM) took place in Thessaloniki from the 15th until the 22th of June and it was organized by the School of Journalism and Mass Communications of Aristotle University Thessaloniki (AUTh), Jean Monnet of European Union Public Diplomacy, and other partners. This year THISAM brought together 53 participants from 12 different countries.
This year’s event aimed to equip the attendees with useful knowledge that will help them respond to the challenges and needs that arise in the field of journalism and communications. More specifically, participants had the chance to participate in workshops and lectures about issues related to disinformation, photojournalism, journalism, cyber security, press freedom, crisis communication management, media literacy, and new business models in the media world.

Lectures were also held by the following distinguished Greek academics: Christos Frangonikolopoulos (Professor of International Relations at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Aristotle University and Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair on European Integration Journalism), Betty Tsakarestou (Head of ADandPRLAB, Department of Communication, Media and Culture, Panteion University), Andreas Veglis (Head of Media Informatics Lab, School of Journalism & MC, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Vasileios Syros (Director of the Early Modern Greek Culture Program, The Medici Archive Project, Italy). Moreover, lectures and workshops were held by the following journalists and photojournalists: Fanis Papathanasiou (ERT anchor/diplomatic correspondent), Andreas Panagopoulos (News Director, Journalist), and Dr. Dimitrios Bouras (Anthropologist photographer and documentarian).
THISAM was honored by the presence of the Secretary General of Communication and Information, Mr. Dimitrios Galamatis, the Consul General of the US Consulate in Thessaloniki, Ms. Elizabeth K. Lee and the the Chief Scientific Advisor, Special Secretariat for Strategic Foresight of the Presidency of the Greek Government, Mr. Epaminondas Christofilopoulos.
