The event titled “Media and the Quality of Democracy”, organized by the Peace Journalism Lab of the Department of Journalism and Mass Media at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in collaboration with Transparency International Greece, was successfully held on Tuesday, January 2, 2025, at the AUTh Amphitheater.
The event focused on Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs), aimed at silencing and intimidating journalists. The discussion highlighted the institutional measures taken by the Greek government to protect journalists from such abusive practices, as well as the crucial role of the media in maintaining and enhancing the quality of democracy.

During the event, the President of Transparency International Greece, Mr. Giorgos Chatzigiannakis, emphasized the media’s role as a pillar of democracy and the need to protect journalism from intimidation tactics through abusive lawsuits.
