The young generations have been greatly affected by the Covid–19 global pandemic. Classes were moved online, some foreign students had to return to their countries and most students replaced the in-person social interactions and learning with stay-at-home education. Internet connectivity and the capabilities of their respective schools are generating discrepancies and inequalities that need to be addressed.
Covid-19 is affecting some of their most precious formative years, making them potentially lose important steps in their lives. Graduations were not the same, summer jobs or camps were cancelled, and isolation became a factor, personal interactions with colleagues and friends being moved entirely, for long periods of time, online. The Covid-19 pandemic can have serious psychological and relational implications, that can outlast the pandemic itself.
As it seems to be the case with the virus itself, youth seems however more prepared to deal with the impact, one reason being their previous familiarity with living online. Is that helping? Were they more prepared than the adults for this unexpected crisis? Are young people suffering more lasting consequences, being deprived of such an important part of their life? How will they come out of this experience, what are their expectations, when normality will return? We will discuss about all these aspects with young people from Germany, Nepal, Romania, Singapore and Ukraine.
