Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to host Journalists Field Safety Training School

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a member institution of UNAI, will be hosting a “Journalists Field Safety” Training School in Kilkis, Greece on 24-28 November 2019.

Many war reporters today find themselves struggling to satisfy basic physical needs and personal security, in addition to having to navigate an extremely complicated information environment. To prepare journalists for the obstacles they will face in the field, the training programme incorporates a curriculum comprised of both theoretical and intensive field training. A number of issues will be presented to the participants, including an introduction to the environment, challenges, and evolutions in reporting war and crises, field safety, data security, health, epidemics and stress management, and admin basics.

As a result of the training school, participants will acquire in-depth knowledge and training on safety topics regarding war reporting and sustainability in the field. Developing a clear understanding of the threats that a crisis-conflict environment may present, they will be able to make the right choices in high-risk scenarios. Lastly, they will gain access to an active international academic and practitioner community dedicated to war and crisis reporting.
