To promote research on International and Peace Journalism

Α highly educated and specialized team of university professors, researchers and students from the Department of Journalism and Mass Media Communication in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki engaged with surveys, researches and implementations of innovative approaches in journalism.

Get to know us

Peace Journalism Lab is a center of excellence in its field and within the Greek academic community, focusing on interdisciplinary themes such as: International and European Journalism, Peace Journalism, Crisis Management, Hate speech, disinformation, verification and awareness on the fake news, Media and war, Strategic Communications, Media and News Literacy, Diversity and the Media. It has been awarded two Jean Monet Chairs for European Integration and European Public Diplomacy, and a research fund from Google (DNI Fund).

The Lab was established in 2012 in the School of Journalism and Mass Media Communication, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It is headed by Associate Professor Nikolaos Panagiotou. Every year the Lab organises Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy, along with major Universities and Organisations from around the world.

What we do

Teaching

One of the Lab’s main pillars is the educational promotion of relevant courses as stipulated and suggested by the curriculum of our school: Peace Journalism, Reporting War and Crises, Diversity and the Media, Peace Journalism and Digital Platforms, and Crisis Management.

Research

Our research focuses on traditional and new media role in the crisis prevention, management and conflict, the mass media exploitation for the democratic dialogue promotion, the hate speech and discrimination elimination, the media literacy and the development of control, certification and awareness on the fake news mechanisms.

Events

By organising many activities and events, we aim to create an innovation lab, an incubator of new ideas, as well as, a meeting and collaboration hub for academics, students and professional journalists.
